I hope he fails.
Because the genius of democracy isn't that we always pick the right people, but that the wrong people get to visibly, demonstrably fail and we learn from that failure, correct it, and are inoculated to it.
I hope the scope of his political failure shakes up political alignments and forces cooperation among people of different parties who share a genuine desire to make this a better country for everybody.
I hope that he becomes so politically toxic that in the future no one will want to run the sort of campaign he did, stoking up fear and hatred and evading questions of policy or simple fact.
